Book Review: The Business Trip

Title: The Business Trip
Author: Jessie Garcia
Length: 344 pages
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Plot Summary: Two strangers who appear to have absolutely nothing in common find themselves sitting in the same row on a flight to Denver. One is a successful, recently divorced television news producer traveling for work, while the other is a young woman desperately fleeing an abusive relationship with a dangerous boyfriend. After parting ways, both women suddenly begin sending increasingly erratic text messages to their friends back home about a charming mystery man named Trent McCarthy before vanishing entirely…
Review: The writing in this novel is mediocre and perfunctory. The characters are more caricatures than layered beings with genuine emotional depth. Everyone is painted in very rigid shades of black and white. Despite these flaws, I kept reading because the premise itself is undeniably interesting, and I was promised a web of clever twists. Unfortunately, “clever” was a far cry from what was actually delivered.
